RESEARCH ALERT: Server Signs - Cisco, Sun, IBM Cloud the Future of Hardware Master Brands

What is Happening? The blogosphere, web media, business media and analyst firms are abuzz this week with rumors of IBM acquiring Sun Microsystems. As of this writing, no deal has been announced, and neither IBM nor Sun has issued any comment. Saugatuck will examine any IBM-Sun deal – or lack of one – in future published research for our clients.

Meanwhile, Cisco announced earlier this week its’ Unified Computing System (UCS) server line that combines computing, networking and storage virtualization and management.

Beyond the potentially significant market effects of any IBM or Sun merger or acquisition, and of significant new lines of business from firms such as Cisco, Saugatuck sees the recent market interest, rumors and activity as a signpost of massive change occurring in IT hardware market direction.
