ISC Cloud’10 Conference Presents a Global Perspective on Cloud Computing

FRANKFURT, Germany [@PR2WEB] – The current forecast for large-scale computing definitely calls for Clouds. But as with many forecasts, how do you gauge the accuracy? And if the forecast is accurate, what do you need to be ready to take advantage of the conditions?

On Thursday and Friday, Oct. 28-29, more than 300 computing experts from around the world will convene at the ISC Cloud’10 conference in the Marriott Hotel Frankfurt to share the latest news and views on Cloud Computing for industry and research. The conference is sponsored by the organizers of the International Supercomputing Conference, a leading global forum now in its 26th year.

ISC’10 Cloud registration is now open, but space is limited.

“The high performance computing community has been deluged with news about the new computing paradigm of Cloud Computing. Although there is a lot of discussion, there are also many unanswered questions. Will Clouds replace supercomputers? Can Clouds finally help us deal with our data deluge?” said ISC Cloud’10 chair Wolfgang Gentzsch, who has built an international reputation as an expert in Grids and is now bringing his expertise to the Clouds. “Many people still seem to be confused about High Performance Computing (HPC) versus Grids versus Clouds, and are unsure about the next steps. For ISC Cloud ’10, we are building a program that will answer these questions and help attendees see the Cloud more clearly.”

Among the leading perspectives to be shared at ISC Cloud’10 will be those of Microsoft’s Dan Reed and Katherine Yelick of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

In his Oct. 28 keynote on “Technical Clouds: Seeding Discovery,” Reed will describe how the growing Cloud infrastructure is “far bigger than anything previously contemplated in high-performance computing” and discuss the important ways in which cloud architectures and software differ from those used for technical computing. Reed is the Corporate Vice President, Technology Strategy and Policy & Extreme Computing Group at Microsoft.

On Oct. 29, Yelick will present her keynote on “Science in the Clouds: A View from Berkeley,” in which she will discuss results from a Cloud Computing testbed for scientific computing at the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC). Yelick is Berkeley Lab’s Associate Laboratory Director for Computing Sciences, Director of the NERSC Division at Berkeley Lab, and Professor of Computer Science at UC Berkeley.
